Decatur Island is located in the San Juan Islands, an archipelago in Washington that is roughly northwest of Seattle, WA and east of Victoria, BC. Decatur itself is a smaller, private island, in the San Juans that offers a unique way to experience the area without public access and the crowds that come with it. The island offers a variety of habitat including dense old growth forest, open fields and farmland, small busy ponds, tidal estuaries and sandy beaches, just to name a few.
Due to the private nature of the island, there is no Washington Ferry access. However, we have a regular charter service that runs a short trip to and from Decatur Island. More details upon reservation!

Greg Tuthill
Greg is an artist, designer, outdoor enthusiast, and armchair ornithologist. He’s been visiting and birding on Decatur Island since 2020, and moved his headquarters to the island in August of 2025. During his time on Decatur, Greg has meticulously studied its geography and wildlife, becoming as familiar as anyone with the activity and variety of birds the island has to offer. Greg’s Decatur Island bird knowledge is only rivaled by his ability to guide, educate and share stories. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a fun adventure on the island where they will learn not only from, but with, Greg.
